The MAN'S quilt

I decided we were lacking quilts for men so I quickly made this one today. This quilt is harder because it shows mistakes:0. Now I must stop making quilt tops and start finishing some of these off!
Update on the quilt-a-thon is that we now have 11 volunteers confirmed...only 6 more to go. I am so thankful for everyone who has stepped forward so far. A couple of the girls are actually complete strangers, cool. I have no doubt that we will find 6 more, somewhere.....

Am I tempting you?

Am I tempting you to join us at the quilt-a-thon on February 9? I have created 4 totally unique looking quilts from one pattern. Just changing the fabric makes them so different. With my 4 plus the 15 that we make on that day, we will have a total of 19 awesome quilts to share with those in West Michigan.

Quilt-a-thon!

So, I promised to tell you about how you could learn to make the quilt in the previous 3 posts. Margaret's Hope Chest is having a Quilt-a-Thon on February 9. With 17 volunteers and 4 hours, we will make 15 of those quilt tops. The best part is that volunteers don't even need to know how to quilt. We need 5 people who know how to iron, 5 people who know how to use straight pins, 5 people who know how to sew a straight quarter inch seam, and 2 people who know how to use a rotary cutter. Are you one of these people? Do you live in the Grand Rapids area? Do you have 12-4 open on Saurday, February 9? Please consider joining us, even if you are a stranger. We really need the help. We have 10 spaces filled but we are still searching for 7 more people. We have a location picked out in SE Grand Rapids. If you e-mail me or call 616-243-8223 you can sign up and get directions. Thanks!
P.S. I am working on my fourth quilt like this right now, I will post a picture when I am done!

These things are addicting

I am addicted to making this quilt pattern. Here is my 3rd one this week. I like this one the best of the three. The baseballs are my favorite part. This was made of all donated fabric-how cute! I have to add a border or two. Tomorrow I will write about how you can help us make 15 of these in 4 hours! Check back.

Meow

This cat themed quilt and the quilt in the previous post are the exact same pattern. You can hardly tell. This pattern I found on 'My Quilt Blog' a few months back. The woman had named her post 'The World's easiest and fastest charity quilt pattern'. Well, of course I had to check that out. She had made step by step instructions with photos! It is fast. I took me about 2.5 hours to finish this quilt (I still have to add borders). Not bad.

Back in Business

After an extended Christmas break, we are back in the quilt making business at Margaret's Hope Chest. I used the time to work on a few of my own projects, catch up on my family scrapbooking, and of course, hang out with my family. All of that is over now, so......here are two new quilts I put together this week. The top one I really like because it is cute and easy and fast. It is a great way to use up some of the large novelty print fabric that has been donated. The bottom quilt is made of 8-inch squares. Easy. Quick. Cute. I guess that is the theme for the day.
A quick update on quilts that have been given away. Our official number is 12. Recent recipients are a new baby born with Spina Bifida, a friend of my aunt's who is struggling with cancer, a young man living in a nursing home with Cerebral Palsy, and 5 families coming out abusive relationships. God is bringing us into relationship with many deserving families. It is still our prayer that these quilts will be a visual reminder of the hope that is found in a caring community.
