Two weeks ago we had our first prison giveaway of 2011 in Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Sadly, due to several other obligations I was unable to go but my mom and dad went instead! They met 25 moms who were thrilled to choose a quilt for their child(ren) and give it to them the next day! 36 quilts were given out that weekend--each a special reminder of a mother's love. There was a wonderful selection of boys and girls quilts--everyone oohed and ahhed over each one.
Guess what? We have 4 more camps this year that we have been invited to share our quilts at--Sept 9th, Oct. 28th, Nov. 4th and Dec 3rd.
But guess what? We only have 25 kid themed quilts left! That isn't even enough for one camp. But I know that you are reading this blog for a reason and I know that the God that directs and leads Margaret's Hope Chest will stir some of your hearts and hands to make a quilt for one of these camps. Let's assume that we need about 35 quilts for each of those 4 camps--that is a total of 140 quilts minus the 25 that we already have which leaves us with 115 quilts to gather before October. Can you send us a finished boy or girl themed quilt? I can guarantee you that it will go to a child who has a parent in prison and it will be a treasured reminder of a mother's or father's love.
As always, a recommended size is 40X60 but we will happily take quilts that are a bit smaller and a bit larger. If you have any questions you can always e-mail me.
As soon as I move my family out of Toronto and back to Michigan for the summer I will be getting to work on finishing some of the kid-themed quilt tops that we received earlier this year--I have set a goal of finishing 20 tops before October--do you think I can do it???
