  1. I know a man whose daughter is struggling with leukemia. A parent with a sick child can certainly feel hopeless and down, especially at the holidays. Watching your young child lose her hair, have trouble walking, have no energy to play her favorite game (soccer) - it is hard to imagine how he must feel. I'd love for him to recieve this quilt as a jesture of hope and love.

What you do is amazing! Thanks for offering this.

  2. a pastor at a church in my town has a 4 year old son right now that was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with stage 4 cancer. My heart has been breaking for this family... This family is living a nightmare. I don't know of many ways to help this family, but a quilt may be something nice for them.
    Thanks for the great giveaway.

  3. I know a teenaged boy who is one the fast track down the wrong road. He has such low self esteem and feels no one loves him no matter how hard everyone tries. I think a package showing up on his doorstep just for him might really touch his heart and maybe be one more thing that helps to keep this kid from going over the edge.

  4. Thinking about this makes me cry. There are too many persons in my life which were fighting or are fighting in this moment. Most of the time it is because of cancer. May sound a little but hard but I will make three red marks in my calender if there is one year without somebody in the family or with the friends who get serious ill.

But thinking of this I recognize how often the people are overseen which helps in this situation to their end of energy.

One of my friends, my best friend even, is one of this persons. He is there for really everyone, he gets up in the middle of the night to catch you up... regardless when or where or why... and also he is due to his family in a lot of debt, he is without job in the moment and although he is one of the most intelligent and nicest people I know, he is really depressive and thinks himself worthless...

It breaks my heart that he doesn't want to grow old.

  5. what a beautiful giveaway. both a gorgeous quilt and a noble deed. i have a neighbor who is a single older man. he is a veteran with two purple hearts. he has been on oxygen for years and has many other severe health issues that keep him basically home bound and he can barely walk. on top of it all, he confided in me two weeks ago that he just found out that he has cancer in his one *good* lung. it is COLD here and it's not even winter yet. i would love for this quilt to show up in his mailbox!

  6. A good friend of ours from church has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour. His name is Gary and he's in his forties.
Miraculouly he has been feeling well through out treatments. this is by the grace of the Lord I'm sure.
His children have been in our home weekly for 3 years as we were the youth leaders at our church until I had a baby in July.
I've wanted to do something for him that is personal however with a new babe I haven't been able to. Giving him a quilt would be a lovely way to help him. he has 5 children and a loving wife. they are lovely.
thanks for the chance to win.

  13. My Brother-In-Law has been in and out of the hospital for a little over a year. He has some weird blood clotting disorder that is causing him to get clots everywhere. The latest is his liver which enlarged so much, it crushed his artery to his heart. He just had surgery to put in a shunt to try to rerout the blood in his liver, taking care of the swelling for now, but for some reason, his body is retaining fluid in his chest and abdomen. He is currently in the hospital with a drain in his back (very painful) to try to drain out the fluid and make him comfortable. The doctors have never seen a case like his before and do not know what to do to help him. I think that a nice warm quilt just might warm his spirits. Thank you so much for being so generous!

He loves to sit in his chair at night and watch tv and this quilt would match his chair perfectly and make him nice and cozy as he enjoyed his relaxing time. I would LOVE to give him this awesome quilt because he deserves it just for being a wonderful man. jinglesells at gmail dot com

  16. oh, how lovely of you! My nephew was just diagnosed with leukemia at the beginning of the month. He's now in hospital, a 5 hour drive away from home, and will be there for the next six months or so, before he can be moved to a hospital closer to home. Needless to say, it's going to be a very difficult Christmas for him and my sister and the rest of the family. A quilt would be a sweet gift for him! Thanks :)

  17. My husband is going through a very rough time right now. Our daughter was diagnosed with a chronic health condition about 3 years ago, a year after that I lost my job. This year my job loss has really taken effect, even with him working 50-60 hours a week we are sinking in medical bills. I would love for my two kids to be able to give him this for Christmas as he has been feeling worn out, depressed and like he can't provide for us. He's also felt disconnected from the kids as he's usually at work when they are awake, I'd like him to be able to have the blanket to remind him of them. mmcgowan at zoomtown dot com

  24. When my husband and I moved from Wyoming to Montana we left many wonderful friends, but there's one in particular that stands out in my mind. He is an amazing man who treats me like one of his daughters. One of his real daughters lives across the state and the other just moved to Texas with her fiance and children. He is just lonely and needs something special. Thank you for the chance to win this wonderful gift for my friend. :)

  28. I have a friend who's currently homeless, and jobless. He's currently going through a divorce and staying at various friends' homes. He's having a hard time finding a job anywhere. Since he doesn't have a "home" address, I do have an address of a friend that he frequently stays at.

  30. I am so completely touched by your giveaway that I wouldn't care about winning another thing if I could win this.

My husband has a close friend and co-worker who could really use something like this. He's been suffering from dizzy spells and been in treatment for his vertigo for about 3 months. During his last treatment (which was just last week) he started to violently throw up and did so for a couple hours. They scheduled a scan and found a tumour on his brain. He was rushed into surgery the next morning where they had a brutal surgery. I guess that typically they keep the brain in the head for these types of surgeries, but in his case they had to remove it from his skull because of the position of it. A couple days after the surgery they told him it was cancer. The worst part? It had spread and he has no chance of survival. This man is only 27 years old and has two kids, 3.5 and 1.5 He is in the hospital and could really use something so warm and comforting right now. Not only would this comfort him, but it would be such a sweet gift for his dear wife and children to have after he dies.

I would be deeply touched if you chose to send this to him.

  32. Okay, you totally rock. This is extremely generous and so in the spirit of Christmas, I love it. I would ask you to send this quilt to my coffee-shop friend Les. Les is bipolar and is a permanent fixture at my local coffee hangout. He's got a place to stay, but not much more than that. He remembers my name, asks about my kids and fills me in on the other regular's comings and goings and also lots of sweet Bhuddist messages that he 'receives' from his swami. I just know Les would LOVE this quilt. He takes very good care of his few things - like his notebook and his backpack. Thank you so much. Most inspiring give away on the list, for sure!

  33. Thank you so much for this giveaway. What a beautiful idea, and a beautiful quilt. You have such talent. I would give this quilt to my boyfriend who just recently lost his job. He was at the the same job for 12 years and felt like the place he worked was everything and the people there were family, he feels so devastated that these things can happen. Having been through the same situation just less than a year ago, it really hit close to home. I had finally found a job in another state and moved for it, and met him! You never know what will come from these changes in life. I would love to give him this quilt to remind him of these things.

  34. I would like to win this quilt for my father. He is one of those men who gives to everyone around him. He worked for the fire department, he worked for the senior center, he shovels/mows the neighbors yeards for them without asking, he fixes everyone's automobiles, and he never says no to anyone needing help. He's in his 60's and suffers horrible arthritis. Warm blankets bring him comfort. This would be the perfect hug for a man who thinks of himself last. I know thats nothing compared to the many who posted about people with cancers and diseases, but he's my hero and I live 2600 miles away from him. It would be nice to send.

You are beautiful for doing such a wonderful giveaway. Bless your hearts!

  42. I would love to win this quilt for my Daddy. He has Alzheimers and Dementia and while he is in the beginning stages it is progressing fairly quickly and he is only 63. It breaks my heart that he will eventually not know us and I think having something tangible to hold onto may help comfort him when he truly becomes lost. Man, I really didn't want to write what I just wrote. Sometimes writing things makes them more real I guess. Anyway, This is a lovely giveaway and what a wonderful way to do it.

  43. One of my very dearest friends is a kind and loving man who is going through a terrible time.
He went through a rough divorce last year (fortunately no kids involved), and has since suffered a domino effect of misfortune.
He lost his job when he was unable to live within walking distance when his car died. He has not been able to find gainful employment since then.
He has found himself homeless on more than one occasion over the past year.
He always seems to be so full of hope and faith, no matter how bad things get. He even remembered my birthday.
He is a true gem of a friend, and even if his trusting nature frustrates me a sometimes, I am so happy to have him as a friend.

I cannot tell you how happy it would make me to win this beautiful quilt for him, to give him warmth when things look bleak.

  48. Yes I know a man I would love to give this to. He has worked hard all of his life. He was recently forced into retirement and finds himself trying to find something to occupy his time. His back is bad and he is unable to do the things he loves to do: work outside, workout, fish etc... He would do anything for anyone and wants nothing from others. He has seen to it that I have a lovely Christmas but I am unable to to the same for him.

  49. I have a friend that has been through quite a bit lately. In fact, when December 10th rolled around this year, we laughingly said he was going to have his bags packed with his clothes and some food and he was going to sit in the waiting room at the hospital because he had kidney cancer surgery Dec 10, 2008 and had a mini-stroke Dec 10, 2009. Thankfully, he wasn't at the hospital this year on Dec 10th. He's had difficulties with his blood circulation and has been experiencing cold extremeties (hands, feet) and has had difficulties staying warm this year. This is very VERY big-hearted of you to offer a quilt. A QUILT! for the giveaway. Bless you and may your family have a wonderful holiday season. dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com

  56. The person that first came to my mind is a young 18 year old man that I know. I was friends with his mother and his whole family moved cross country but due to some issues with his father he decided it was best to stay here in NH until he graduates from school. He has been having an awful time as he has never lived without his family and misses them, especially his mother, terribly. He is an honarable young man, the kind I would want my daughter to marry, and is working to support himself. Receiving something like this would make him feel so loved and give him that extra push to make it through to graduation!

They've always struggled financially because she takes the money and spends it on anything and everything. And she doesn't work. Last year they unexpectedly had twins. I've yet to see them because his wife refuses to let our family see them. She won't let my brother even talk to us on the phone. 69. My husband lost his father this year. We got the call on Easter sunday that he was in the hosptial and they found a large tumor and numerous metastasies. his was devastating to my husband, as his own battle with cancer is always with him. We spent as much time as we could with Howard during his final six months. In The end, he passed peacefully at home, but left no peace for his only son. Howard left many nasty and hurtful things behind -- I had no idea of the extend of abuse my husband has endured over his lifetime.
This quilt would be a reminder that he is loved and that there are still kind people left in this world, as he is having a hard time seing that right now.

  73. As you may or may not know, 3 months ago a magnitude 7.1 earthquake ripped through Canterbury, New Zealand. Thankfully no one was killed, however businesses, homes and lives have been ripped to shreds.
I would gift this quilt to a man who had to move himself and his family out of their home, after it was made unsafe to live in. His wife was battling PND prior to the quake, and also has PTSD following the quake. They have 2 small children. He has been working full time, and then coming home, having to do everything around the house, as well as support his wife, and be a father to his children. To top things off, his wife as been in and out of hospital with pain they have been unable to diagnose.
If I win I hope this quilt with give this young dad the courage and strength to keep strong for his family.

  74. My friend's daughter was born with a congenital heart defect (Truncus arteriosus). The baby had surgery at 2 days old, and she seemed to be doing well, but died suddenly almost two months later. Her aunt (my friends 20-year-old sister) died in an accident only a few hours later. That was in May. This fall, his brother, also in his 20s, died unexpectedly. I've never known anyone who has had a year this unrelentingly bad. He could sure use some hope.

He is doing the best he can to fight his cancer and take care of the house and his wife. I will help where I can as my mom was doing the same thing , fighting cancer and taking care of a husband who had open heart surgery. I quit my job to go and take care of them...

  77. I know a young man who is struggling with so many issues in his life - a very difficult childhood, abandoned periodically by both parents, bounced around, finally taken in by a loving aunt and uncle, but since graduating and returning to his home area has really fallen back and got into trouble. He is such a sweet boy at heart, and I'd like to remind him of how much so many people care about him.

  79. I can think of two men... one a friend that has lost his wife and will be alone for Christmas and a little comfort and warmth from this quilt would make his day...

the other my husband... who I take for granted ... he never wants much for Christmas; but, he is always cold and this would keep him warm while he watches tv or sleeps in front of the tv... thanks

  80. Not the saddest story around, but our Uncle has just lost his father (my grandfather-in-law), is currently unemployed and just needs a little bit of hope. I believe this could definitely put a smile on his face.

  81. i know three men. well. little boys. they just found out yesterday they'll have to put their beloved yellow lab, hank, down due to cancer. i remember losing pets when i was young, and it may not seem like a big deal but when you're 3,5,and 7 its the world. I think this quilt would be perfect for them to cuddle under when they're missing the warmth of their beloved hank.

this is a beautiful quilt. and such a generous gift. blessings!

  83. I have a friend who is in the ministry and just this year found out some horrible news and is now divorced. He is going through a really hard time, raising his daughter and still trying to serve with a smile. A quilt won't change the past but it can bring comfort in the present knowing that people care for him and his family.
What a great gift you are giving :)

  84. My next door neighbor is struggling with many health issues. He had a hip replacement years ago which developed into a serious bone infection, resulting in a major surgery where he had to have not only another hip replacement but a thigh bone transplant as well. He is still wheel-chair bound and finding it extremely difficult as he was a farmer and can no longer support his family.

  88. I have problems leaving home by myself. I usually get out several times a year to a quilting group. My DH takes care of all the shopping and some of the hard housework and is a great cook. He regularly takes my Mom shopping as well and to the doctors.

He supports my quilting, but I never seem to get one finished for him or many finished at all....grin. I'm a professional starter.

  89. I nominate my nephew who has seen his share of troubles mostly brought on himself through poor choices and using drugs. He appears to be trying to start putting one foot in front of the other in a positive manner but homelessness always is a path that he could go at any point. If he had this warm quilt perhaps it would help him to see that just as it keeps him warm there are people who love him and care deeply for him and want to share their love/warmth with him as well. Thank you so much!

  90. This is an amazingly thoughtful giveaway!
My grandfather is my nominee. He's recently been moved to a fulltime veteran's nursing home and seperated from my grandmother, who still lives in their home. He has alzheimer's, and it has gone from managable to just terrible in the last year. He rarely remembers his age or anyone around him, but the things he loves right now are quilts and stuffed animals. He's reverted to a stage where he is basically like a child again, and plays with his stuffed animals all the time at the home. An extra cuddly quilt for him would mean both something special to cuddle with, and a tent to play with his stuffed animals under. Thank you for the chance to win - I know, reading these comments - that any of these entries will be a loving home for your quilt!

  92. I'd want my grandpa to have thiss beautiful quilt. He is 97 years old, and recently had to move over 2 hours from his home. He hasn't been adjusting well. But I think something as beautiful and cozy as this, would help him a lot!
