We LOVE giving things away here at Margaret's Hope Chest-actually that's what we do all year long!
This giveaway is a bit different than others so please read carefully!
Our mission at Margaret's Hope Chest is to give quilts to individuals and families who are experiencing seemingly hopeless situations. Do you know a woman (18+ years old) RIGHT NOW who could use a gift of HOPE? Cancer? Job loss? Sickness? Death? Loneliness? If you would like to "win" this quilt please follow these guidelines:
-Think of a woman that you know in your community, family etc. who could use HOPE right now
-There are TWO quilts that we are giving away--Quilt A and Quilt B-you must choose which quilt you are trying to win--YOU MAY ONLY CHOOSE ONE--please don't say either one--we purposefully chose one that was more 'modern' (A) and one that was more traditional (B).
- Leave a comment with which quilt you would like to win and a brief explanation of the woman you would like us to give a quilt to and why. Also, provide an e-mail address if it isn't provided in your profile.

i would love to win the traditional quilt for my mother-in-law. she's been having severe headaches, and passing out semi-frequently. she's gone to the doctor and had MRI's, but they can't seem to find a reason. she is the most wonderful woman and i love her dearly!
ReplyDeleteI think I would like quilt A. It would be for Nicole. She is someone I know briefly from church and continue to know through Facebook. Nicole is a young lady who struggles with depression and has been in and out of the hospital this year already. I really think she would enjoy a quilt. Thank you so much for thinking of others.
ReplyDeleteI would like to enter for quilt A. I would love to give this quilt to my friend, Bridget, who lost her family home in Phil Campbell, AL during the terrible tornado outbreak April 27, 2011.
ReplyDeletei will enter for quilt 3. you are all so generous. i will send my quilt to my grandmother, who is 80, wheelchair bound at home, and a retired quilter. this would give her a very uplifting thing to stare at all day while she reads...thank you for being so full of love in this world guys. x
ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt A for my little sister. She's the mother of 3 year old, she has MS, she just lost her job and her husband has been looking for work for 2 years. Things are pretty tough. Thanks for your wonderful site.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt A for a good friend of mine who lost her husband. He had been ill for a long time and caring for him consumed her life. She worked full-time and raised two children as his health declined. She's struggling to learn to live without him and to find her way. This quilt would provide much comfort. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win Quilt B for a friend of mine. Her name is Molly. She has been dealing with family illnesses in both her Mother and a very close uncle. She is a wonderful caring person and loves quilts. It would put a wonderful smile on her face.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteI would be honored to win QUILT A for The Garza family ... an extraordinary OBGYN and his extraordinary wife. He has delivered 2 of my 3 children and has offered his services pro bono since we don't have insurance. He serves as an elder in his church, and he and his wife (along with their 4 children) have taken in a family from Uganda for 2 years...serving them in every way possible. They are tired, but you'd never know it by the smiles on their faces. They give so much, I'd LOVE to "repay" them somehow...this beautiful quilt would be so appreciated by them - Catherine Garza is quite a crafter herself! Thanks so much!
I would love to win quilt A for my sister. My sister is the mother of a disabled 20 year old. I know at times caring for her daughter can be overwhelming. My niece's disease is a progressively degenerative disease and so she is just slowly getting worse all the time. It affects her heart and she could have a cardiac episode at any time that she may not recover from. My sister is also the only one of us kids who lives in the same town as our dad. Dad is elderly and has numerous health problems. My sister is always there to take care of him. She just spent 9 hours with him at the emergency room yesterday. My sister also works full time as a nurse and that can be a stressful job at times, too.
ReplyDeleteI would choose quilt A for a dear friend of mine. She recently gave birth to an adorable little boy who has already had to endure two heart surgeries. At this point he seems to be doing well, but it has been roller coaster ride for her and her son still has a long road ahead of him including two future surgeries that we know of. Although, to be honest I'm not sure she qualifies for this giveaway because she is far from hopeless. I have been humbled by her positive outlook and her faith in God - not necessarily that He will heal her son, but that He will be with her no matter what. Throughout this whole process, she has still managed to remain concerned about those around her. Motherhood is by necessity very selfless, but for her it is so much more. I just thought it would be nice for her to have something pretty just for her.
ReplyDeletequilt A, quilt A, quilt A!!! i love it. i have these charm packs sitting in my sewing room to tackle my first quilt. i love it!

I would love to win quilt B for my mother-in-law! She's gone through more surgery and pain in the past five years (back reconstruction, infections, etc) than people should ever go through. Now she is mostly bed-ridden and has very little hope left. She's expecting to hear that she'll need another surgery soon, and this would be something wonderful to stay with her in the hospital. Thanks so much for such a wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the more modern quilt for a dear neighbor. She and her husband have lost both of their children to cancer. It is almost too painful for words. Thank you for the chance to give her some "hope".

I would love to win quilt A for a very close friend of my family. She and her daughter have been almost part of our family for many years now. I've enjoyed watching her daughter grow up. But, as a teenager her daughter is going through some very rough times. For now she isn't living at home and I know this is tearing at my friend's heart. I would love to be able to be there to give her big hug every day. This quilt would have to be the stand in. To remind her just how loved she is even when things are so tough.
ReplyDeletei would love to give quilt A to my sister-in-law. money has been tight in their house while my brother starts a business, and this would cheer her up so much! she's a wanna-be-quilter who doesn't know how to sew, so this would be very inspiring!

I would love to win quilt A for my mother who is going through chemotherapy right now.
ReplyDeletei love quilt a! it's so pretty! and i would keep for myself...selfish I know, but I'm recently married and we don't have many blankets for company to snuggle up with when our family has overnight stays. I always have to ask them to bring their own blankets! eek!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt A for a dear friend whose husband is battling a very rare form of cancer. They had been married less than a year when the cancer was found, and so far all the various chemo treatments haven't made any dent. She is a social worker with a giving and vastly creative soul, and I know she would treasure this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt B for my mother in law. She is a 10 year breast cancer survivor who recently was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She is on her 3rd cycle of treatments and is really having a tough time. She is an amazing woman whose strength never ceases to amaze me. This is such an inspiring giveaway and you are wonderful to do this.
ReplyDeleteI would like to win quilt A for a friend who is having a terrible time at work. It's a place I used to work at, too, but it became too toxic for me. She doesn't have the option of quitting, so has been suffering and counting down the days to retirement (still years away.)

ReplyDeletenoca0603[at]gmail[dot]com
I would choose quilt A. The women I am thinking of is heavy on my heart. She will be having a mastectomy tomorrow. When she went in for her 6 week check after giving birth she found out she breast cancer and it was so advanced that the only thing they could do was a mastectomy. Her mother died from breast cancer. Please if you think of her pray, her name is Jennifer.

ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt A because it is one of the most gorgeous quilts I have ever seen. I think one person who deserves a quilt is my good friend because she has been fighting depression for months now and could use a quilt to help give her strength.
ReplyDeletedramallama56@hotmail.com
I would like to win quilt A for my friend Maria. She's a young mother who had already survived Guillain Barre syndrome years ago and has recently been re-diagnosed. This came as a blow to her since she and her husband have been trying to have a second child but now will have to hold off maybe indefinitely. I'm sure she would appreciate a little hope in the long days she has ahead of her battling her disease again
ReplyDeleteQuilt A. My next door neighbor, whose name escapes me right now, is very sick. She lives alone and seems so depressed and lonely. My husband mows her lawn. We used to bring by dinner and help her with errands, but we got caught up in our own lives. I would love to take this oppertunity to drop by with a quilt (did I mention she loves quilts?!) and dinner and reintroduce myself
ReplyDeleteI would love quilt A for my wife. She was looking though the giveaway and showed me this listing telling me how sweet it was that you were giving this to someone who needs hope so I went though the giant list to find yours again after she ran to the store. She is a wonderful mother to our three young children! She has battled with depression from the age of 6 and is still fighting everyday to get out of bed. I think that this quilt would bring her cheer everyday when she gets up and sees it. Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteQuilt A! One of my closets friends is going through a very though time. She is getting a divorce and it is an emotional/nasty one. She is all alone right now and I don't have money to get down to see her. All I want to do is give her a huge hug. I would like to win this for her. I think she would love it and I think she could use it. She is starting over and this would be great for her.
ReplyDeleteI love giving!

I would love to win quilt A for my friend Cindy. She's a business owner (face painter, henna artist, entertainment agent) who's just learned that her leukemia numbers are worse. She's got a husband, a teenage daughter, and a young son. She's an awesome mom, a wonderful friend, and one of the best people on the planet.

I love Quilt A! I would send it to my mom! She has been an amazing example of what it means to be a loving, hard working mom. I am blessed to have her as my mom and am so thankful for her constant encouragement and sense of humor! Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteI would like to win the first traditional quilt for a friend of mine who has been going through a rough time. She is now situated in a new job that seems to respect her intelligence, but I think she's still trying to get over the fact her old job treated her like she was an idiot and she was expected to work insane hours. Plus, she doesn't have many friends in her new city and the expenses of moving and a recently "found" doctors bill have really stressed her out a lot. I know she'd love to cuddle under a quilt with her dog and cat and do some knitting as a way to de-stress. Both quilts are absolutely lovely, thank you for offering.
ReplyDeleteelizabeth.waligora@gmail.com
Ok, I immediately thought of my mom. She was diagnosed with kidney cancer the week before Thanksgiving and had her kidney removed the week after Thanksgiving. Since then she is doing well but is now caring for her brother who has had major heart surgery and vein and artery issues. I would loveto win this for my mom just because...I love her so much. It has been a trying few months.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win Quilt A for a co-worker going through a particularly difficult divorce. I won't divulge any of the specifics of her marriage/divorce, but it has been a sad relationship for many years, and has gotten even worse now that she has taken steps to begin a new phase of her life without him. She can't get him out of the house, and he's making life even more miserable for her. She's scared for her life as well as the life of her children. Hopefully this quilt will give her something to wrap around her and console her during those awful evenings.
ReplyDeleteQuilt A for my sister who is a single mom of four.
ReplyDeletei like quilt A, for a friend who suffer from anxiety and depression, this would make her feel happy. thanks for the chance.

I wish the squares quilt for Harvada. she is in her 50's has endured so much and is so positive and enthusiastic despite her challenges. She continues to testify of her saviors love despite all she has faced. She got her small children out of an abusive home, raised her kids singly, remarried a great man who adopted the children (one of which has social phobia whom she takes care of) Her husband is dying of Cancer and had his last scan showing things aren't good. She would love to be wrapped up in this quilt. You ladies never cease to amaze me. Love, Lisa Morse slkmorse@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteQuilt A. Her name is Laura, and I worked with her for 10 years. About three years ago, her husband lost his job. He finally expanded his search out of state and moved a little over a year ago. She stayed here until their house sold. It was really hard on her on many levels. And ultimately she just wished that she could have her life back the way it was. She finally moved last fall to be with him. It was miserable for her since she knew no one there and had to move away from her newest grandbaby. Over winter, she broke her leg. She had also began coughing and felt a bit sick all the time. It took the doctors a while to diagnose it but in the end, she has stage 4 lung cancer which had spread throughout her body. It was likely caused by being exposed to something over a long period of time. When she was stuck here without her husband, her house had a gas leak. She also had to clean mold at their new house, as well as a lot of bird nest's which also grows mold. The doctor's are unsure specifically what caused it but Laura is not even 50 yet. With stage 4. With now 3 grandchildren she may not see turn 5 years old. A little hope could go a long way on her. Her treatments are making her feel so terrible that her optimism is quickly waning. Thank you so much for the generosity! Everyone's comments are so sincere, I wish the best for each woman mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get quilt A. It is unbelievable. I would give it to someone in the midwest that lost their home. I don't know anyone personally, but I would give it there. And if I have to give it to someone I 'know' then I would give it to the Crisis pregnancy center to give to a women who they counsel as a way for them to show love.
ReplyDeleteI love the second quilt, which I would give to comfort a friend who is going through a rough divorce.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!

ReplyDeleteI love the first quilt.
ReplyDeleteIf I win, I would send this to my aunt. She is in the hospital right now with intestinal problems, and they can't figure out what is wrong. She has a 7-year-old at home, but has been in the hospital for over a week now. I think she could use some hope.
Beautiful quilts! I would love to win quilt #2 for my step-mom. She recently lost her mother and when her mother passed, they had to move from the house into a mobile home. The past couple of months have been very hard and this would help her to know she's loved. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteravensrascals at gmail dot com
I nominate my co-worker who just recently lost her home and everything in it (including her cats!) in a fire. She is very crafty, and I think she would really appreciate a handmade quilt. I would love her to have Quilt A. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleterobyn.geddes(at)gmail.com
I would love to win quilt A for my mom. She's had such a rough year because finances have been tight, she lost her mom to a battle with cancer, making her parentless, and she is battling diabetes. I think this would really brighten her day. :-) Thanks for the thoughtful giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteQuilt A for sure...although both are beautifully made! I would send this to my sister-in-law who is supporting her three year old son while he goes through chemotherapy for leukemia. he was diagnosed three months ago and is struggling.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the first quilt for my Aunt. She was just recently diagnosed with cancer. They have her scheduled this week to find out just how fast spreading this cancer is. :( She has Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia already. And though I live in Kentucky and she lives in Indianapolis, I can provide an address for you. Thank you for such a wonderful giveaway and for your huge hearts. You ladies are in my prayers. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI would love to send quilt A to my mother. She's always been the type of person to put everyone else first. She was a SAHM with 4 kids and was married to a man who verbally abused her for 19 years. She finally got the courage to leave him and go out on her own and eventually found the love of her life - my stepfather, John. They've only been married for 4 years and it's the happiest I've ever seen her. Recently, they found out that John has Stage IV rectal cancer. She's been so strong for him but is really having a hard time right now. John is going through chemo to try and put the cancer into remission but it is continuing to spread and does not look good. Hope is something my mother needs a lot of right now and this quilt would let her know that she's not alone in this.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all you guys do!

My aunt has had one bad thing after another, ever since childhood. She married a man who turned out to be abusive and then he died. She is on her own now and struggling financially, and her daughter was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few years ago, and I know she worries a lot about her. I want her to know she is loved and that she can take a sigh of relaxation once in a while :)

ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt A for my daughter. She is always doing great things for the people she knows, without expecting anything in return. If anyone was filled with love and patience and perfect for motherhood, it was certainly her and I'm so happy for her! Would love to "win" this for her to snuggle with her new little boy :)
ReplyDeleteQuilt B would be my choice and for the person who I would like to see it go to... is Emory Warren, he is in his 70s and has been fighting cancer for two years. He is also the main care giver for his wife who has limited mobility. They are my neighbors and a wonderful couple. I take them meals a few times a week, especially when he is getting his treatments, so I know they are getting the nourishment they need.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win quilt A for my sister. She is completing her PhD at Oxford. Prior to beginning her studies in England she was in the Peace Corps so has been away from our family for many years. ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is an AMAZING giveaway! I would love to win Quilt A for my sister. She just turned 36 this month and was diagnosed with breast cancer this past summer. She underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery...which her first plastic surgeon mucked up, so she had to deal with quite a lot of pain and frustration, plus the need to find a new doctor. During her recovery, her marriage fell apart, leaving her to care for her two children, who are 3 and 5. She has completed her chemo treatments, but still have several surgeries ahead of her and the medications that she has to take leave her in quite a lot of pain. I know that she's spending quite a lot of time curled up on the couch trying to work from home, and I think that such a cheery quilt would be an amazing gift for her. Thank you SO much for offering your giveaway in this manner. Whoever wins your drawing is going to be so very lucky!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts. The first one is especially lovely--I always admire people who can make this pattern and make it right.
May they find their way to the right special people. :)
What a great idea! I would definitely choose quilt A for a friend from high school named Lauren. She has been through the terrible tragedy of losing a baby. She lived about 4 hours. She is now expecting another baby girl and I'm sure would love this!
ReplyDeleteI would choose this quilt for my older sister. She's a mom to 5 children. She homeschools and goes to college full time. Add in being a housewife and she has a full load. And still has time to call me everyday. I think she'd like a nice quilt to curl up in during story time.

ReplyDeleteI adore Modern Quilt A.
ReplyDeleteThis would be perfect for my little sister. We've been through alot together. We lost our mother to Pancreatic cancer a while ago and my dad was diagnosed with stage 3 Skin cancer about 1 year ago. So although she's not in a super bad place now, I know she would love. It would make her day. She's also traveling abroad and this would definitely comfort her.
I would love to win quilt A for my sister in law. She has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, she's 27 years old, and her two children are 2 years old and 7 months old. My brother is a Marine stationed in the San Diego area, and he works hard both for the Marine Core and taking care of his sick wife and two children. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the second quilt for a dear friend who is battling cancer right now. Chemotherapy is taking a toll on her body and having this quilt showing people care would mean so much to her.

I would like to win Quilt A for a young woman named Rachel.
ReplyDeleteShe lost her mother last month to cancer, after nursing her for several years. The doctor credits Rachel's care for the unexpected length and quality of her mother's life after her diagnosis. During this time, Rachel and her husband have suffered several other significant reverses as well.
As a talented paper crafter, Rachel would no doubt appreciate, and take comfort from, this beautiful quilt.
Quilt A for my friend who is having a baby this summer. She has been on bedrest since 12 weeks and has an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old.
