GIVEAWAY DAY-MARGARET'S HOPE CHEST STYLE!

****GIVE AWAY IS NOW CLOSED*****

Once again, Margaret's Hope Chest is joining Sew, Mama, Sew in her May Giveaway Day. In true MHC fashion we are putting our own little twist on it. Interested??? Read on....
Our mission at Margaret's Hope Chest is to give quilts to individuals and families who are experiencing seemingly hopeless situations. Do you know anyone RIGHT NOW who could use a gift of HOPE? Through this giveaway, we would love to help you serve someone you know by giving them a quilt.
This year we have TWO quilts that we would love to give away with your help. One is for an adult and one is for a child.

*****EDIT******Please note that these quilts are for people who need HOPE due to a HOPELESS SITUATION--only comments that recommend someone who fits this description will enter the draw--THANKS :)

QUILT A is for an adult. It measures 69 inches by 87 inches. If you want to know the story behind this quilt see THIS POST.

QUILT B is for a child. It measures 39 inches by 41 inches. This quilt was made by a volunteer quilter and we have been saving it for a special occasion. Oh, how I LOVE this quilt.

If you would like to "win" one of these quilts for a person that you know who could use some extra HOPE please read these guidelines:
- Leave a comment and tell me which quilt you want to be entered to "win"-Quilt A or B.
- Please share a brief explanation of who you would like us to give the quilt to and why.
- Be prepared to provide me with a mailing address for this person--if you "win" this quilt it will be sent directly to the person you nominated.
-Drawing will close at 8pm on Thursday, May 20.
-My kids will randomly pick one commenter for each quilt using a highly scientific method (HINT: it involves little slips of paper and a hat).
- We will video tape the drawing and post it here on our blog on May 20 at 8:10 pm (it usually takes me a few minutes to remember how to post videos).
- Please leave an e-mail contact in your comment.
We can ship anywhere in the U.S.

Hello, what a great introduction to your website!
I would like to nominate my new son for Quilt A.
Casey lived in 5 foster homes before he came to me this year. Because of severe abuse and neglect and 10 abandonments that I know of so far, he suffers with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Fetal Alcohol problems, attention deficit disorders an inability to read facial and body language, on and on.
Casey is now twelve and a half and graduating from 5th grade this next week with very good grades. Our adoption will be finalized this summer. The beautiful quilt made specifically with love and prayers would thrill him and comfort him forever.
I make children's quilts for Child Protective Services officers to give children as they are removed from their homes. These situations are often chaotic and because of the probability of illegal dangerous drugs in the house, the children are taken with no possessions, their clothing is replaced, and they begin their lives in foster care without a single possession.
Thank you for doing what you do.

Hi -

I would like to submit a comment for Quilt B. I'm in the process of collecting quilts for winter months for my neighborhood blanket drive - which are usually given out to children in hospitals or other needy causes. I know it's not even summer yet and I'm already thinking about winter right? I don't think it's too early to start collecting and start thinking about it. I already have 2 made ready to go :). I think great, beautiful quilted blankets are a great gift to those in need.

I would love Quilt A. My quilt group makes charity quilts to donate when there is a family or individual in need. I would donate this quilt to our cupboard for the next gift.

Beautiful, I espeically love the children's quilt! If I win the quilt I will send it to my sister in law in Germany (you could ship it to me in FL :)) for her new son, Giosue. Giosue is just a couple months old and has been in the hospital off and on since. Daddy, who is a cancer survivor, recently had a relapse scare. They're also in the midst of moving to a new appartment. It's been a tough time for them & this cheery quilt would put a smile on their faces and keep Giosue cozy in their cold weather!

I love quilt B. Such vibrant colors. I would nominate my 7 month old friend, Sam who was born with a genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Sam is a true fighter with her disease and does a lot of lounging around, this would be perfect for her.

I would like to win the children's quilt and donate it to an unknown child who has been a victim of abuse. Ther is a child advocacy center here that always needs something for the kids and quilts are very special to the kids. They wrap themselves in them they hide under them and they play with them, but the volunteers tell me that they generally use them at times when they need comfort.

Amazing quilts, and such a great cause! My grandma just got out of the hospital(she's 93) after having a big fall. She had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital and now she will need to go to assisted living (ie - nursing home) because she is getting too old to be left alone. She's pretty depressed - doesn't want to have to live in the nursing home, hates losing her independence, and I know something beautiful and handmade like your adult quilt giveaway would really lift her spirits and provide her some comfort during this transition.

I would love to send quilt B to my sister in Indiana. She has 2 beautiful young daughters. She is experiencing terrible back problems and needs a rainbow of hope!
Thanks,

Quilt A ... what a fabulous giveaway....quilt A would go to my aunt who is caring for my uncle who has 3 brain tumors and is at the end of his life.

Wow! What a wonderful give away.

I would like to nominate my mom for Quit A. She was injured in a work incident as a nurse two, almost three years ago. Since then she has been fighting with workman's comp and the insurance of the company she worked for to get the proper treatment for her injuries. Her back and shoulder were messed up pretty bad and the pain has been hard to control since she hasn't been able to get the workman's comp and insurance to agree as to what should be done. As a grandma it weighs heavy on her as she can't pick up or hold her grand kids, they can't sit in her lap and she can't cuddle them and hasn't been able to since she was hurt. This has been very hard on her. Hopefully soon thing will be settled and she can get the proper treatment and move on. But, in the mean time I think she could use something to pick up her spirits as she tries to work her way through school so that she can get another job and get back to working as well as living.

Thank you for what you are doing and best wishes to who ever does win a gift to be sent to someone.

I'd like to win the first quilt for my sister. We were ecstatic last year when her cancer went into remission, but this year has been full of a whole host of unrelated health problems. She's currently in the hospital, again. I know she's feeling pretty hopeless right now.

What a fantastic idea for a giveaway. I'd like to nominate Natalie and her family for either quilt, as everyone in this family could use a little Hope right now.

Natalie has a very rare heart condition which has hospitalized her several times. She has 'coded' twice and was revived. You can read her whole story at www.nataliesheart.com

We are friends of this family and can give you their address for direct shipment. dfrazzled@gmail.com

I would have to say quilt A for my best friend Deanna. She has always been there for me. My marriage, the birth of my son, my divorce, my moves. Everything, she will be there with me in a heartbeat if I call and say I need her. Everyone needs a friend like that.

Katie said...

I don't know if it's tacky to nominate my own daughter, but I'm going to, anyway. She is 21 months old, and undergoing extensive testing to see why she is not growing. So far, we know it's probably related to food, but we're having trouble figuring out which foods to eliminate. We have 2 more weeks to wait until her next round of testing.

She is such a sweet girl, and everyone who meets her comments on her huge smile and friendly wave. Isabelle is the light of our lives, but currently doesn't have energy to play with her big brother or sister because her health is too poor. Isabelle has lost almost all of her body fat, so she is constantly cold. She could definitely use a quilt to wrap her up in love.

Thank you.

I would like to nominate my old location of employment the Crisis Stabilization Program in Virginia. They offer services to people in accute stages of crisis - that often takes the form of homicidal, suicidal, or psychotic tendoncies. Individuals literally are there because they have run out of hope! I could imagine the comfort being wrapped up in a quilt would bring to the many individuals who pass through those doors!

I would like to nominate a friend of mine for quilt a. Her name is Liz! Her husband was in a terrible motorcycle accident, he survived, but now he is having a lot of medical issues. They aren't sure how long he will be around. On top of that she has 2 boys and a new baby on the way. It is not a hopeless situation, because they are born again believers and God is on their side. I feel like she is very deserving of a blessing. Thank you for considering her for the quilt. May god bless you in your ministry to others

I would like to nominate my friend's son. He is nearly three years old and they just recently lost their apartment and everything they own in a fire in Chicago. Our mama's group raised money to help them get back on their feet but this little boy lost everything from favorite toys to blankets and teddy bears. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to receive a special quilt made with love.

I would love to win the adult quilt for my friend Beth. She has been fighting Colon/Liver Cancer for almost two years. During her fight, she has taken up quilting as something that she could do while resting and recovering. Next week she will be having major surgery. This is an all or nothing surgery. If all goes well, she will be cancer free. But it is a risky surgery. I think it would give her that last minute smile to receive this quilt.

i know a lady named Bernice who is recovering from a fall, last year she fell down the cellar steps and broke her hip, this year she fell over some bags and broke her shoulder. She is my mother in law and is the sweetest lady, always helping her neighbors. She lost her husband years ago and she wants to stay in her own home, but it is getting harder and harder for her to do that. I think my brother in law is thinking of retiring so he can move in with her and take care of her. He is the son who lives close the other three live really far away... She would love this quilt...please enter my name in your lovely drawing, ladycolmn(at)aol(dot)com from Florida Gulf Coast area

Gosh, what a giveaway!
Our next door neighbors are a sweet mother and daughter. The Mom had a stroke and although her mind is sharp as ever, her body is betraying her. She had a fall and is in extreme pain with broken ribs. Her daughter takes care of her and works to pay the bills, but was recently laid off. That's who I would give quilt A to.

Gosh, all these people mentioned in the comments are such tearjerkers. Thanks for doing something so nice.

Hello, I would like quilt A. I would like to nominate a very good friend of our family. A few months back, he was a horrific accident that should have claimed his life, but with God's protection, he survived. He was seriously injured greatly decreasing his quality of life...They described his as "locked in" meaning that he could see, hear, and understand everything that was going on around him, but he could not respond in anyway other than blinking. He already made some wonderful improvements that the doctors said would never happen...But has a really long way to go. Something like this could just encourage him, his wonderful wife, and their family. They never gave up hope with all the news they got from the doctors, I just want to encourage them to keep up that hope.

My name is Sarah sasher342@hotmail.com

Hello again, I do have another nomination...A good friend of my parents' daughter has been suffering from brain cancer for many years...she has had 5 surgeries in an attempt to remove the tumor in her brain. Which they were able to do but it keeps coming back...she celebrated her 21 birthday that the doctors said she would never reach. She is 21 years old and still fighting...she just finished another round of Chemo and radiation...Obviously this taking a huge toll on her and her family. With God's help she is "Fighting like a girl". That is her motto. I would nominate her for quilt B. The bright colors would brighten her day.

Paying it forward - I love this idea. I would nominate my cousin and his wife for Quilt A. Her son who was in his 20's was murdered two years ago and she is still devastated. He was her only child, my cousin's stepson and she still grieves so hard. She is such a sweet, caring person and having something to wrap around her for comfort and warmth would be amazing. And, if she doesn't win this has given me a great idea for a family quilting project for her. Thanks for this wonderful idea.

I am always encouraged to read your giveaway! I appreciate the fact that you're using this to give hope to someone special. I have a friend named Jan who is suffering from a relapse of cancer. She is a mom of three and expecting her first grandchild. It's been a difficult journey for her, yet she remains positive. She's so young and has so much life left to live -- We are praying and trying to encourage her. I know that something like this would also bring hope.

Thanks for the chance to enter!

Oh wow. I LOVE what you are doing with your giveaway! Here is my entry, it is for the child's quilt, quilt B.
I would love to send this quilt to my friend's family, who lost their son, Tate, to Neuroblastoma, a rare brain cancer, last summer. He was only 7 years old. He had two little sisters whom of course, along with the entire family, still struggle to grasp what has happened all too quickly. I would love the quilt to be for his sisters, to be something to comfort them. I would be honored if you would send this to them. I'm going to attach a YouTube link to a video tribute to Tate, so you can take a peek into his life and his journey.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8liHQmsGvA
I'm in tears as I write this - in part because of thinking of Tate, and in part due to your generous heart! God bless you and also the persons who will receive your wonderful quilts. xo, Susie

Wow! What a great tribute to Margaret's life. Everyone's comments make me realize how great my own life is and how much I have to be thankful for.

I work as a retail pharmacist and see many elderly that just want to talk. Due to privacy laws, I can't leave her name, but I would nominate NK. She is a hard-working grandmother in lots of pain. She always has a smile on her face!

I would like to nominate my mom for the adult quilt. Until just recently she lived just a couple miles from us. Due to the horrible economy and loosing her job, and my step-dad's as well they had to move a long ways from us. They went to live with my grandma in Louisianna. We used to see her almost everyday. She was in the delivery room when all three of my boys were born. Now she is halfway across the country and no longer gets to see her children or grandchildren. It has been rough on all of us. She could really use some hope right now. She and my step-dad are desperately searching for jobs, with no luck so far.

This is not an entry. I don't know anyone in such a dire situation this year..can I say 'THank God!" Last year I believe I did nominate a friend, but although she lost her husband, she is coming through the grieving process fine. I was a little disappointed to see only 62 comments thinking maybe people were only interested in what they could get not in giving to others. I am judging...maybe they like me have no one in mind that NEEDS special love. Wish that could be said more and more these days. Anyway, thanks for your ministry in this way to the hopeless of our world.
