"Your request to join do. Good Stitches {a Charity Bee} has been declined.
The group administrator gave the following reason:
I'm very sorry, but I don't feel that your quilting style , will fit in with the style of our bee. Wishing you the best! "
12 hours later I am cool with it but when I first read this I was sort of in a state of disbelief-feeling like I was back in High School again and I was being rejected for not being 'in' enough. I don't want to sound too bitter and overdramatic here but I thought that the purpose of the group was to create quilts for kids in need--evidently there is a little more than that going on here.
So my friends, chin up--let's continue bringing HOPE and comfort to the people God leads to us--and rest assured--Margaret's Hope Chest will never decline a volunteer based on their 'quilting style'. We love all of our volunteer's work!

That's pretty unbelievable.
I like Rachel's blog (Stitched in Color) - and yours - and don't get it!! I didn't realize that it was like that - I thought anyone who wanted to could join a bee block group... as long as there was room. I've been wanting to do one, so this leaves me sad... what about a Margaret's Hope Chest group? Anyone out there know how to start it up? I'd join!
Your style is faith hope and love. So beautiful. Our Lord may be protecting you and your quilting ministry. Rejection is not of God.
You are in His perfect will, have peace in your heart. Have a fun day dreaming of quilts to be made in His name showing His love!
What an odd response! I would think that you are an expert on making quilts for children in need. Chin up! You are greatly appreciated for all you do.
WOW- that is just rude and so junior high. I think they are missing point of the project. I for one am honored to have been and continue to be a part of MHC!
That's just odd. I went to see what the "style" was and I don't know how you couldn't fit in. Kind of puts me off bees, nobody wants to be rejected.
That doesn't sound very "charitable" to me...sounds like their priorities are all screwed up. You'd think they would love to have ANYONE, regardless of "style" join in...you are probably better off not being involved.
Good grief!!
Glad that you found out what they were like before you joined!
Interesting juxtaposition (my big word for the day) between the response you got from your request to jointhe bee and your previous post. Obviously you and the others who donate quilts to Margaret's Hope Chest have brought comfort and happiness with your quilts to many people. You include anyone who asks to participate. You don't care if were not creative enough or a modern quilter or if our seams don't match, I can't find any requirements that we use $10.00 a yard fabric, we can go to Joann's and buy some cute fabric with a coupon and that's okay here, if there's a little pucker on the back where I did my own quilting it seems like you wouldn't mind. Everyone is a winner those who receive and those who give. Keep doing what you do, Margaret's Hope Chest is a example for us all!
Wow! Definitely confirms some of my thoughts about certain groups and styles trying to be the "in" thing.
I went and checked out their group and they didn't seem any more special than anyone else. I prefer MHC's "style". Since I myself am a pretty straight forward quilter I'm glad you'll accept my offerings. And I'd rather one of my quilts get used and loved than remain untouched because it is "too good".
Keep up the great work. I'll continue to support you and your group.
Unbelievable....I am so impressed by Margaret's Hope Chest and I'm enjoying every stitch I put into the quilt I'm making for my child. Remember, you have Sisters in Christ out here in "Quilt Land" who love you and support you. We can do ALL things through Christ! Keep up the good work. We support your ministry and will continue to do so. Janelle in Maryland
I just stumbled across this and I'm sad. I am one of the quilters for do.Good Stitches and that certainly isn't one of the attributes I care to share so I would like to tell you that I'm sorry. I had no idea that it was like that.
Jennifer :(
Well, well, well--there really IS a Quilt Police Force.
Wow. I'm speechless.
God has better plans for you!!! Now you are starting your own bee. Once again He uses an imperfect world to further His perfect will. Keep spreading the love of Christ... Way more important than being ultra hip
I came here from Jennifer's blog after she posted her feelings about exclusion in charity bees for 'a different style'. I am very sorry that you had that experience and encourage you to continue on in YOUR own style, creating charity quilts made with love for people in need.
I feel so sad reading this. I'm sorry you were treated this way.
Unbelievable. Makes one shake one's head!
I agree, God is sending you in a different direction. Its sad because its so much fun to sew with others. You can come sew at my house!
Wow, I know just how you feel...I was rejected by a scrap quilter's group...and that is all I do is scrap quilting, LOl!! Oh well...I guess they just don't deserve us...Hee!! Enjoy your charity quilting and fabrics...isn't it all so fun!?
wow, I am still in shock.
